Foodshare update
This year we are very grateful to be the recipient of even more harvest festival collections than previous years. It is a much needed boost to our supplies.
For those who give regularly, thank you once again for your continued generosity. At the moment we are particularly short of coffee and squash but are still very well stocked with pasta, tea and cereal.
Windsor Christian Action has now taken on Foodshare as part of their work for which we are very grateful. The scheme will continue to run as it has been but with this extra support.
Next month we are hoping to promote the ‘reverse advent calendar’. This is where people have a box, and each day of advent they add an item to it to donate to Foodshare at the end of the month. More details in November.
Wesley Guild News
Wesley Guild – message from Dennis Collier
“Our programme for 2016/17 has now started and we shall meet on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month at 7.45 pm in the Falder Hall. It would be lovely to see some new faces, you will be most welcomed and there is no need to be a Church member. Come when the evening may be of interest to you and make a donation to the Guild.
26 October we have Vicki Salkin coming from Luton to speak to us about her missionary work with the Middle East Concern (MEC), a Christian charity that helps persecuted Christians in the Middle East and North Africa. They support churches and individuals to practise their Christian faith freely. A collection will be taken for Vicki’s charity. (Vicki is a good friend of Rosemary and Jon.)
On 9th November our own Rosemary will be talking on ‘A journey around the Stourport Ring by narrowboat’, and reflecting on Britain’s wonderful heritage.”
Circuit Appeal
Churches Together in Maidenhead are appealing winter coats for refugees in Lebanon and Syria. They can be delivered to St Peter’s Church, Maidenhead between 9 and 12 on weekday mornings or on Sunday mornings, by Sunday 23 October. They will be placed in a container being sent to Lebanon refugee camp.
Dates for your diaries
Friday 4th and Saturday 5th November Volunteers needed as Action for Children have the chance of being able to hold collection @ Windsor Racecourse on at their annual Firework Spectacular shows. Over 15,000 attendees of all ages are expected to attend which is a fantastic opportunity for us to promote Action for Children's work, locally and nationally. If successful, AfC can have an information stand and a number of bucket collectors at the event, the event will be from 4pm to 11pm each day (exact timings TBC nearer the time). We can only accept the slot if we get enough volunteers, so please come forward as soon as possible! If you can volunteer an hour or two, please contact Ossie Williams
13th November – Songs of Praise – this quarter’s songs of praise will be held on 13th November at 6.30pm. The hymns choice slips will be available from 9th October. Why not come, choose and sing your favourite hymn. Please hand your choice to Margaret or a steward no later than 6th November. Enjoy a great evening of singing wonderful hymns
Interesting news!
Alison has been asked to do a large floral tribute at the high altar in Westminster Abbey for the Memorial Service of Sir Terry Wogan on Tuesday 27 September! (We think it will be the pedestal on the left hand side of the altar.) The service will be televised so we will be able to look out for it. We all appreciate how blessed we are to have Alison in our church and for her amazing, and nationally recognised talent. She is much too modest to tell folks herself but we are so proud that she has been asked to do this by the organisers on behalf of Sir Terry Wogan’s family – so congratulations Alison from all your friends at our church!
Cornerstone Chapel Refurbished
Have you seen the new look inside and outside the chapel? Do come and have a look sometime as it is greatly improved providing a wonderful calm space for prayer and quiet reflection.
There is to be a service of re-dedication soon, watch this space for details.
